[metaslider id=”2762″]WE WON! Every year the Minnesota Environmental Partnership, a statewide coalition of environmental and conservation nonprofits, selects 8 winners to receive an Environmental Initiative Award. The Environmental Initiative Award is designed to honor the people and projects who create collaborative solutions to issues at the intersection of Minnesota’s environment, economy and society.
And this year,TruNorth Solar and The Liberty Apartment & Townhome multi-unit sustainable living project has been awarded the Sustainable Leadership; Small Employer Category which will be presented on May 23rd at the Environmental Initiative Award gala celebration.
The Liberty Apartment & Townhome project has been a collaborative sustainable living construction project that involved a number of partners including Intuitive Investments, Liberty Crossing Investment Partners, Steven Scott management, Tanek Architects, Momentum Design Group, Great Western Bank, the St. Paul Port Authority and TruNorth Solar.
The Liberty Apartment & Townhome project is located on Winnetka Avenue in Golden Valley, MN and represents a paradigm shift in multi-unit and community living new construction. From initial sketches to final CAD designs, the entire property was planned with sustainability in mind. The 55 townhomes, 200 apartments units, community clubhouse and pool are all fully integrated with photovoltaic solar arrays with over 1,448 solar panels generating over 452.93 kW and will produce clean energy for decades to come.
This advanced design features 57 independent Solar PV systems interconnected to the local community electrical grid. A key component of the Liberty solar design is to educate and increase awareness, showcasing what actually can be done to make solar a more integrated part of our living from the ground up. Additionally, all residents and collaborators of The Liberty will be able to track the amount of electricity being generated by the solar panels either online or with a smartphone app. Residents of The Liberty will be consuming clean energy from day one, offsetting 5,518 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions over 25 years.
Making solar energy an integral part of community development in the Twin Cities Metro Area is leading-edge. The future of sustainable community development and solar integration is now, and TruNorth Solar and The Liberty Townhomes & Apartments are honored to be recognized as a winner in this year’s Environmental Initiative Awards.
